Youth Concert

2011-2012 Season 39 Youth Concerts Series

Music Director Gregory Cunningham
The Warren Symphony Orchestra
presents two performances of

Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf

Wednesday, April 25th at 9:30 and 11:00 am

Peter and the Wolf was written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936. Peter and the WolfThe Symphony was commissioned for the Central Children’s Theatre in Moscow. Prokofiev invented the story and wrote the narration himself, drawing on memories of his own childhood. The symphony introduces us to the orchestra, with instrument or group of instruments and their musical theme representing a character in the story: Peter by the strings, the bird by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, the wolf by the horn section.
