“Blended Traditions”
A Double Date with the Scott Gwinell Jazz Orchestra

The Motor City Symphony, the Detroit Music Awards’ 2014 Outstanding Community Orchestra, kicks off its 42nd season by joining forces with the venerable Scott Gwinell Jazz Orchestra (similarly honored an astounding 13 times by the Detroit Music Awards). These two acclaimed ensembles, performing separately and together on one stage, will offer a wide variety of works, many blending the traditions of classical, jazz and popular music.

Program to include:

  • George Gershwin – American In Paris (orchestra alone)
  • Astor Piazzolla – Tangazo, Variations on Buenos Aires (orchestra alone)
  • Scott Gwinell – Brush Fire (orchestra and big band)
  • Eden Ahbez (arr. Gwinell) – Nature Boy (orchestra and big band)
  • Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart (arr. Gwinell) – My Funny Valentine (orchestra and vocalist)

“Holiday Traditions”

Warren Woods Community Theatre – December 14, 2014 @ 3:00 pm

Get in the spirit of the holidays with this annual holiday tradition featuring the sounds of the season! The MCSO joins forces with students from the Eisenhower High School choirs (Julia Holt, director) for an afternoon of traditional music sure to put you and yours in a festive mood.

“MCSO with the Assembly Quartet”
